Dr. Prudence Cheung
She is currently a Research Assistant Professor and has conducted numerous clinical studies, randomised controlled trials and laboratory tests. Her main research interests include idiopathic scoliosis, developmental spinal stenosis and health-related quality of life of patients and their caregivers.

Dr. Teng Grace Zhang
Grace is an Assistant Professor, in charge of the Digital Health Laboratory. The ongoing projects include HMRF08192266 on light-based AI-driven malalignment quantification, HMRF19200911 on AIS digital health, PRP/078/21FX for surgical planning, and MRP/038/20X for non-radiation AI diagnosis.

Dr. Nan Meng
He is a Research Assistant Professor, at the Digital Health Laboratory of the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, The University of Hong Kong (HKU). At HKU, he conducted research for the image-based cancer diagnosis and released the first large-scale dataset for human somatic bright-field cells..
Research Fellows

Dr. Chenxi Yu
He received his MD in Surgery (Orthopedics) in 2018 from Shandong University, and Ph.D. degree in 2021 from Tsinghua University (Peking Union Medical College). During his Ph.D., His main research interests include the genetics research of congenital skeletal deformities, molecular genetics experiments and genetic data analysis.

Dr. Siyu Wang
He received a B.Eng in Automation and B.B.A (minor) in Business Administration from the Tsinghua University in 2013. He recently obtained a Ph.D. degree in Robotics at the University of Hong Kong (HKU). His research interests include the localization, and navigation in 3D unstructured environment with uncertainties, and motion control of legged and wheeled robots.

Dr. Weigang Cui
He is currently a postdoctoral researcher in Biomedical Engineering, holding a Ph.D. in Automatic Science and a BS in Mathematics from Beihang University. His recent research interests include medical image analysis, machine learning, and the intelligent diagnosis of brain diseases.

Dr. Weichen Qi
Dr. Qi Weichen graduated from Shandong University of Science and Technology in 2013 with a bachelor's degree in metal materials science and engineering, and later earned his master's degree in materials science in 2016. He furthered his studies in the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology at the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine at The University of Hong Kong, where he obtained his PhD in 2020. His research focused on the design and manufacturing of orthopedic medical devices.

A/Prof. Kwan-Yee K. Wong
Since 2001, he has been with the Department of Computer Science at The University of Hong Kong, where he is currently an associate professor. His research interests are in computer vision and machine intelligence. He is currently an editorial board member of International Journal of Computer Vision (IJCV).

Prof. Ashish Dhar Diwan
He is the Director of Spine Service at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, St. George Hospital, University of New South Wales. He is also the Director of Bone Biology at the Orthopaedic Research Institute. Within the University of New South Wales, he also functions as the Post Graduate Coordinator for St George & Sutherland Clinical School. Prof.

Dr. Xiaowei Deng
He is an assistant professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, the University of Hong Kong. He obtained a Ph.D. degree in aerospace engineering from the California Institute of Technology. He received the William F. Ballhaus Prize for outstanding Ph.D. dissertation, and two best paper awards from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), respectively.

Dr. Morgan Cheng
He is an entrepreneur and had successfully directed two high technology companies. Morgan has profound experience in software engineering and he is currently overseeing a 100-people development team specialised in Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain. Previously, Morgan worked as an SW architect in several Silicon Valley companies including Google and HP. Morgan has been working closely with Dr Teng Zhang on the development of the Artificial Intelligence platform for managing spine malalignment since 2017.

A/Prof. Tak-Man Wong
He is the Assistant HCE of The University of Hong Kong – Shenzhen Hospital. He is also a Clinical Associate Professor working at the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, The University of Hong Kong. He has published over 20 peer-reviewed papers in SCI journals and over 50 invited lectures. He is currently the Community Officer of AOTrauma Asia-Pacific, Committee member of SICOT education committee and National Delegate of Asia Pacific Orthopaedic Association.

Prof. K. Y. Sze
He graduated from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the University of Hong Kong with First Class Honours, and as the Williamson Prizeman of the year. He continued his studies in the same Department and earned his Ph.D. three years later. Before returning to his alma mater, he had taken up research and faculty positions in Canada, Singapore, and Hong Kong.

Dr. Arnold Wong
He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He worked as a Physiotherapist in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for several years and completed his Ph.D. training from the Uni-versity of Alberta in Canada. His research interests focus on the investigation of mechanisms underlying common musculoskeletal disorders.

Dr. Sloan Kulper
He is an entrepreneur and founder of Lifespans Limited, a medical device startup company that spun out of the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology of HKU, where Dr Sloan Kulper also completed his PhD. Sloan obtained his B.S. in Design from MIT, where he conducted protein engineering research at the Laboratory for Molecular Self-Assembly, and design research at the MIT Media Lab.
Postgraduate students

Mr. Xihe Kuang (Ph.D. C)
He received his BEng degree in Beihang University (BUAA) in 2019. He is currently a Ph.D. student in the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology. His research interests includes the medical image processing and enhancement, the development of AI system for automated clinical diagnosis and pathology progression prediction.

Ms. Moxin Zhao (Ph.D. student)
She received her BEng degree from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China in 2017. Then, she joined the Key Laboratory of Microwave Remote Sensing, Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 2020, Moxin got her Master of Science in Engineering, and now a Ph.D. student in the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, Faculty of Medicine, Hong Kong University.

Ms. Lijuan Ren (MPhil. Student)
She received her BMedSc degree from Chongqing Medical University in 2020, followed by her MMedSc degree in the University of Hong Kong (HKU) in 2022. Now, she is a full time research assistant in the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, School of Clinical Medicine, the University of Hong Kong. Her research field is MSK Rehabilitation Biomechanics.

Mr. Tao Huang (MPhil. Student)
He received his B.S. degree from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications. I used to work in Huawei and Bytedance to do database slow SQL and big data recommendation model, and now I mainly focus on surgical quantification.

Mr. Yi Zeng (Ph.D. Student)
He obtained a B.E. degree in Electrical Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) in 2020, followed by an M.S. degree in Computer Science from SJTU in 2023. His research interests lie in the field of security and privacy in healthcare systems.

Mr. Zeyuan Zuo (Ph.D. Student)
He received his BEng degree in Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) in 2019, followed by his M.S. degree in Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) in 2021. He was awarded the Hong Kong University Presidential Scholarship upon joining AIMed lab as a Ph.D. student. With his research interests in big data and artificial intelligence, Zeyuan intends to develop techniques for user experience optimization across different health care system applications.

Mr. Hao Wu (Ph.D. Student)
He received a B.S. degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of California, Davis in 2018. He recently finished an MPhil degree in Bioengineering at the University of Hong Kong (HKU). His research interests include the design and improvement of Orthopedic medical devices, Biomechanics of Orthopedic implants, and effects of biomaterial on cellular response.

Mr. Zhaolong Wu (Ph.D. Student)
He received his B.S. degree (with first class) in 2021 in Information and Computing Science from Xi'an Jiaotong Liverpool University(XJTLU), followed by his M.S. degree from University College London (UCL) in 2022. His research interests include using natural language processing (NLP) for medical free-text and developing AI systems for personalised therapy.

Ms. Qiuya Li (Ph.D. Student)
She received her B.S. degree in Clinical Medicine from Peking University in 2015. Then, she finished a Master degree in Surgery from the Fourth Medical College of Peking University, Beijing Jishuitan Hospital, National Center For Orthopaedics in 2020. Now she is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, Faculty of Medicine, Hong Kong University.

Mr. Yue Zhang (Research Assistant)
He received his M.Eng. degree in pattern recognition and intelligent systems from the Department of Automation Sciences and Electrical Engineering, Beihang University, Beijing, China, in 2021. In 2022, he worked as a deep learning researcher at Deepwise AI lab. His research interests include computer vision, deep learning, and medical image analysis.

Mr. Wenlan Xie (Research Assistant)
He earned his B.S. degree in Operations and Supply Chain Management from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, in 2020. He then pursued his M.S. degree in Data Analysis from the University of Sydney, graduating in 2022. His research interests lie in the application of machine learning techniques for data analysis and the use of natural language processing (NLP) in analyzing scientific free-text.

Mr. Pengyu Lu (Research Assistant)
In 2022, he earned his BEng degree in computer science from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC), followed by his MSc degree in computer science from the University of Hong Kong (HKU). With a strong passion for computer vision, he currently serves as a research assistant, specializing in the application of machine learning to medical imaging.

Ms. Dorothy (Research Assistant)
She is a yoga teacher for over 15 years across Euro-Asia including India, UK, Australia, Hong Kong and China. She received her Bachelor and Master degrees in the University of Hong Kong, specializing in physical and applied geography. Upon her return from China in late 2011, she continues to provide extensive yoga trainings and body rehabilitation treatments to her clients.
